Growing up, I didn’t have the best oral health routine. I was the kid who would regularly forget to brush my teeth, then when it came time to go to the dentist, I would brush frantically hoping it wouldn’t be obvious. I still remember being 10 years old, brushing my teeth 5 times with 5 different toothpastes before going in for a cleaning. Looking back it was nuts, but at that age, it seemed completely rational. Somehow, I never had a cavity until I was in my 20’s and by then I did brush twice a day and take pretty good care of my teeth.
I’ve been clean from drugs for almost 15 years, but those years I was in it was when my natural state of pretty blessed oral health got completely thrashed. Some people naturally have a tendency toward cavities and oral issues, some could go a year without brushing and never get a cavity. I tossed my genetic oral health lottery ticket into the shredder when I was on drugs and I’ve had to live with the consequences ever since.
I am not a big fan of fluoride. Spirituality is a foundational piece of my health and wellness and I’ve seen a lot of information indicating excess fluoride calcifies the pineal gland. (You can read about it here.) So I’ve opted for more natural options at supporting my teeth and oral health needs.
Next to brushing, using mouthwash daily has helped a ton is keeping my gums and teeth healthy. I had struggled to find a good all-natural mouthwash until I stumbled on to an amazing recipe. The best part is it is super easy to make, and you can’t put a dollar amount on anything that saves you precious time.
